Setting up of yarn depot
Various studies conducted so far on constraints faced by handloom weavers have categorically inferred that main problem of weavers is the absence of availability of raw material. While loom setting is one time task, it is the raw material, which is required at regular time intervals by the weavers. Unfortunately there is not at all any yarn bank/ mill in whole of Shimla district. Weavers have to come to Mandi or Kullu to purchase yarn. Incidentally, Himbunkar is having distributorship of yarn under Mill yarn gate scheme being implemented by N.H.D.C., a subsidiary of Ministry of textiles. The yarn depot under the same scheme will be set up at a centralized location in the cluster area, so that there will not be any problem of availability of raw material to the weavers.
Outcome (2010-11)
Yarn-Depot under Rampur-Ani handloom cluster had been setup. Various Yarn of requisite count and colour worth Rs. 3,00,000/- have been purchased from NHDC. Regular supply of yarn to all groups/societies of weavers is being made on demand. Total yarn sold Rs. 21,000/- till 30.06.2011.
